Roger Myers has presented critically acclaimed concerts on four continents including in Austria, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and the USA. Roger is Professor of Viola and for 10 years served as Chairman of Strings at the University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music where in 2007 he received their Teaching Excellence Award.

Associated with prestigious music festivals including Music Academy of the West, Bowdoin, Festival Institute at Round Top, Marrowstone, Green Mountain and the Festival de Musique in St. Barthelemy, he was also Artistic Director of the XXV Silver Anniversary International Viola Congress. In 2009 he held a Visiting Professorship at the University of Southern California. 

Born in Sydney Australia, Roger played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra while still a student, later studying in the United States with Donald McInnes at the University of Southern California, named most outstanding student of the year upon graduation

Presenting solo and chamber performances hailed internationally, The Strad Magazine described his playing as possessing, “Consistently beautiful tone and unshakeable aplomb”. Performing with such artists as Lynn Harrell, Jean Barr, Steve Doane, Suren Bagratuni, Yehonatan Berick, Jorja Fleezanis, Daniel Heifetz, Mark O’Connor, Ronald Leonard, Martin Lovett, Felicia Moye, Kurt Nikkanen, James Parker, Tsuoshi Tsutsumi, the Brentano, Cavani and Miro String Quartets, he has also performed with the LA Chamber Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Camerata Pacifica, Niagara International Chamber Music Festival and Da Camera of Houston. In 2005 Roger enjoyed a successful Carnegie Hall debut and has performed important premieres of works by Kevin Puts,  Mark O’Connor, Michael McLean and recently a viola concerto by Peter Askim in Walt Disney Concert Hall.

In 2014 Roger Myers’ work in the arts was honored by election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London. His graduates have achieved success as symphony musicians and teachers in major institutions and his students past and present are regularly found in the most prestigious conservatories, universities and summer festivals.

Roger Myers plays a beautiful and rare J.B. Guadagnini viola from Parma made in 1763.
